Amed

Of all the settlements in the far east of Bali, you'll find Amed the most rewarding. Just off the main road between Amlapura and Singaraja, driving through a micro climate that renders East Bali more like an African landscape than the lush tropical environment you got used to in the other parts, Amed is a pleasant, loose collection of smaller hotels and cosy restuarants. This is the place for those who put a dive or a snorkeling expedition on top of their program. The famous Liberty ship wreck, which sank during the Second World War, lies just around the corner in Tulamben. Or take it easy after you met the fishermen right on the bach, next to your hotel, after they come back from a night's journey. On clear day, the views on Mount Agung, are superb. Amed is the prefect place to to visit Bali Aga villages, salak plantations and lonely temples of East Bali…
