Embark on a culinary adventure unlocking the secrets of authentic Balinese cooking, utilizing traditional ingredients and preparation methods, in a fully equipped, local community village kitchen. Your day starts early at one of the markets of Ubud. This is the place where ordinary people do everyday shopping. Pick up fresh herbs & spices, crisp vegetables and a choice of meat cuts. You will be introduced to various ingredients that will be used during your class. Learn more about exotic items like ‘snake fruit’. Before heading back to the kitchen, you will go a guided ‘padi’ expedition. Interesting to see how rice is sown, grown and harvested. The importance of rice in the daily life of the Balinese is highlighted. Upon your return to the village where the class takes place, you will be warmly welcomed and expertly guided by your host, who will help you to discover how to create your very own delicious authentic Balinese dishes. She will answer all your queries about Balinese food that comes her way. There is plenty of cutting, mortar and pestle work to be done. It is as much fun as the delicious tasting afterwards. Everybody is expected to pitch in.
